I dedicate this post to the category “Handicap Challenge”. Because I want to improve my handicap in 2021?
No! No?
Yes, here’s the deal. In 2020 I played quite decent golf and finally managed to play my way down to “under 20”. The new WHS is also of this opinion and so I start the new season with 19.5. But why not improve further now?
Because I feel very comfortable with this handicap right now. My Arccos caddie thinks that my playing strength is 15.4, but I don’t care. My performance is about the same as a bogey golfer. You just have to accept that.
So what is my golfing goal for 2021?
I’m not too sure yet. First and foremost, I want to enjoy the sport. But that also includes hours on the range and the practice greens. That’s just as much fun as being on the course. Of course I will play the one or other tournament, but not with the intensity I used to.
If there is a dramatic improvement in my game as a result of the training, I may of course throw my plans out the window and play more tournaments again. But we’ll have to wait and see.
And other challenges?
Last year, I won the matchplay competition on our small course – the Donkey Trail. That was a new golfing experience, but due to the lack of appreciation of the victory by the club, I am no longer very interested in participating in 2021. To compete on the big course in 2021 would be a challenge, but the competition is very strong and I’m not sure I want to. Let’s wait and see.
Where do you go from here?
Since I started playing golf, I’ve been on fire from the beginning. Many tournaments, better handicap and met many nice people. Little by little the sport takes/took more and more time and space and I am still very enthusiastic today. But slowly my attitude tilts towards “take it slower”. You don’t have to be there for every hustle and bustle, nor do you have to subject every shot on the course to analysis.
Other equipment?
On the whole, I am very satisfied with my clubs. My last purchases were
- Putter
- Driver
- Wood 5 and
- hybrid 3
This year I’m toying with new wedges, but with Corona it could be difficult with the fitting and I don’t want to make a change in the middle of the season. Let’s see how the first spring months develop.
