The Aquella golf course is not directly on Phuket, but not far from it. It takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes from downtown Phuket, depending on traffic, of course.
Aquella is located by the sea near the town of Mueang in Phang Nga Province. The entire complex can be described as fantastic. The clubhouse is rather small but modern and offers excellent service.
How to get to the Clubhouse
As soon as you drive through the security gate from the main road, you are immersed in another world. A long access road leads through palm-lined paths to the clubhouse. Before that, you can turn off to Aquella Lakesides Villas, a residential complex with luxurious houses. Numerous extensions are planned there, such as a beach and kids’ zone, more villas, and a boat house on the lake.
At the small roundabout in front of the clubhouse, you are greeted by the staff and your bag is taken. After parking your car, you proceed to the reception, which can be reached through the first entrance of the building.
There you check in and receive a chip card, which records all your expenses. You only pay at the end when you check out!
If you want/need to change, you will find the changing rooms on the other side of the same building. The best way to get there is to walk through the restaurant and then out. A few meters further on the left, you will find the entrance. A member of staff will show you to your locker, which you can lock with your own code.
Then continue around the building and you will usually find your caddy and bag. As range balls are included in the green fee, you will be taken to the driving range to warm up.
Before or after, you can practice your short game on the putting green directly opposite the changing rooms – you can’t miss it.
The 18 Holes from Aquella Golf Course
Apart from a few slight hills, the course is fairly flat and easy to play. However, water comes into play on many holes, so accuracy is required. Watch out for the bunkers and streams that run across the fairway! Fortunately, the carts are equipped with a navigation display that allows you to easily read the distances. Your caddy will assist you with this – pay attention to yards or meters. Yards is usually preset.
On my first visit, I ended up in the water a few times. You want to attack the green and then realize in hindsight that the supposedly safe side is exactly the opposite. Sloping terrain causes the ball to roll or bounce nicely into the water hazard.
Good course management is therefore particularly important here!

My game hasn’t exactly improved in Thailand. The balls don’t fly as far anymore, and the difficult greens and different types of grass compared to Germany make the game challenging (and my swing has probably deteriorated too).

The special Tip!
Search the website for “Sports Day” – as of today, this is on Tuesday. On Sports Day, you can play at a reduced price, which is about half the normal green fee, or around 50 euros.
The green fee includes a cart, range balls, and a caddie, but don’t forget to tip at the end. The caddie gets at least 400 baht, but 500 baht is better (if you are satisfied).
